Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Decoding

1970 - 1972
1970 - 1972
1973 - 1977
1973 - 1977

The thirteen digit vehicle identification number is stamped on the plate mounted to the left top of the dashboard, visible through the windshield. This number also can be found on a non-removable safety sticker on the rear of the left front door.

Please note: the VIN AND ENGINE CODE LETTER ARE NOT ALWAYS THE SAME!! For some, the engine plant code and VIN code are different. - Provided courtesy AMCHornet.com visitor MSgt Frank Swygert, 436 CES/CECM (MilCon)
