Engine Code Number Decoding

Engine Identification Code Locations

Six Cylinder Engines
Stamped on right upper side of Block

6-Cyl. Engine Code Location

Eight Cylinder Engines
Stamped on the rag attached to right hand front valve cover.
8-Cyl. Engine Code Location

Note: all V8 engines have their cubic inch displacement cast into the block, on both banks, between the first and second core plugs. This is the best way to tell engine displacement, because valve covers are interchangeable between engines.
